from construction to care, we can help
County Durham Housing Group tenants have found themselves in a wide variety of new jobs thanks to specialist employability coaching and advice.
During the last year no fewer than 19 tenants have picked up a new career following one-to-one support from the group.
The Employability Support Team are dedicated to helping tenants, often with complicated circumstances, to find work or training opportunities that could transform their lives.
Tenants recently benefiting from the service have stepped into a variety of roles. No fewer than seven are now working in the care sector, three are in manufacturing, and another three in retail. Construction, cleaning and facilities management have also become new careers for tenants; as well as a call centre operative and delivery driver too.
Senior Employability Coordinator, Claire Maddison, said: “The tenants who are referred to us tend to be the ones who have found barriers to
getting into the employment or training they’re really looking for. Perhaps they have just had difficult experiences in the past which have stopped them getting the help needed.”
“We’re able to offer genuine one-to-one support to help overcome those barriers. We’ve helped tenants who’ve been offered work or training, but have no way to get there, and those who needed support to find the right training and experience to set them on the way to the job they’ve always wanted.”
Many of the tenants have taken away qualifications, which will stay with them for the rest of their careers. Eight tenants went straight into employment after the support they received from County Durham Housing Group.
