‘Gorgeous’ new homes in Newton Aycliffe are already making a huge difference to families.

The first tenants are settling into the latest houses to be completed as part of County Durham Housing Group’s £32m investment in new-build homes. The four new properties on the popular ‘Woodlands’ development in Newton Aycliffe have been bought by the group to provide much needed affordable housing in the area.

All four have been finished to a high standard and have become the first County Durham Housing Group homes in the Newton Aycliffe area. The two and three-bedroom properties take the total number of homes completed since the new-build programme began, 12-months ago, to more than 60.

One tenant, who has asked not to be named, was looking for a new home after a change in circumstances. Her family were settled in the Newton Aycliffe area but were having problems finding a suitable home. From first hearing of the home in Woodlands to moving in took around three weeks.

“We’d been to see other homes, but they weren’t really suitable.” She said.

“It’s a gorgeous house, I’m really looking forward to putting our stamp on it. I never thought anything as new or nice even existed in the affordable housing sector after being on the housing list for a little while. It’s been a positive process from start to finish, I’d definitely recommend it to others.”

County Durham Housing Group Head of Development and Commercial Property, Kate Abson, said: “It’s wonderful to see these new houses becoming homes. They are very high quality properties and we are very pleased to extend our offer to the Newton Aycliffe area.

“I hope all of the new tenants at Woodlands settle in quickly and have a great time living there. It’s a perfect example of how the right homes, in the right location, can make such a big difference.”

The homes are part of County Durham Housing Group’s new-build programme that will provide a variety of property types across the county to meet demand.

All of the homes will be completed to a high standard with the latest heating and insulation systems. Many are being made available through the Government backed Rent to Buy scheme, whilst others will be available for affordable rent via Durham Key Options.
